During a two-day official visit to Türkiye, Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir was welcomed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Ankara Airport. The meeting took place just before President Erdoğan embarked on an official trip to Qatar. Joining the discussions were key Turkish officials, including Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Chief of General Staff Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and Director of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Ibrahim Kalın. Earlier in his visit, Munir held separate discussions with General Staff Chief Bayraktaroğlu.
This visit highlights the ongoing efforts by Türkiye and Pakistan to bolster their strategic alliance, with a particular focus on enhancing defense ties. Asim Munir has been increasingly active in Pakistan’s diplomatic landscape, taking part in initiatives aimed at mediating regional conflicts and easing tensions.
The leadership of President Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has seen a broadening of bilateral relations between the two nations. These strengthened ties have spanned numerous sectors, but defense cooperation remains a central pillar of their partnership.
Türkiye and Pakistan’s collaboration in defense comes at a time when both countries are looking to enhance their regional influence and security capabilities. The recent engagement between high-ranking officials from both nations underlines a shared commitment to addressing mutual strategic interests.
