Oman has reiterated its commitment to resolving international disputes through dialogue and peaceful negotiations, as outlined by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. Emphasizing the necessity of dialogue to build trust and address global crises, Al Busaidi highlighted the importance of respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, while avoiding force and interference in states’ internal affairs.
Addressing concerns about regional conflicts affecting security and trade, Oman underscored the significance of safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Al Busaidi reaffirmed Oman’s dedication to safeguarding navigation freedom in line with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, urging all parties to practice restraint and resolve disputes politically.
In terms of regional diplomacy, Oman renewed support for a political resolution to the Yemen crisis, advocating for the country’s unity and stability. Al Busaidi called for cooperation among all parties involved to ensure the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people are protected, alongside efforts for reconstruction and development.
Oman also voiced its stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, condemning Israeli actions and supporting Palestinian rights. The nation reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution, envisioning a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, consistent with UN resolutions. Oman’s efforts to promote tolerance and counter hate speech through the Muscat Plan were highlighted, along with broader collaboration with the United Nations.
Further, Al Busaidi emphasized Oman’s focus on sustainable development under Oman Vision 2040, which includes initiatives in renewable energy, sustainable transport, green industries, and a commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
