Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye are strengthening their military and intelligence collaboration in response to escalating attacks by Yemen’s Houthi forces. The military chiefs of staff from the three nations convened in Riyadh to discuss bolstering Saudi Arabia’s defense and enhancing coordination under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, which was signed in August.
The discussions focused on the regional security situation and the need to integrate defensive capabilities more effectively. The military leaders reaffirmed their commitment to collective defense, emphasizing the protection of Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. These talks come amid a surge in Houthi attacks targeting Saudi interests and infrastructure, as well as shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, which have raised broader regional security concerns.
Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman also held a separate meeting with Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir to address the recent attacks and explore ways to strengthen joint defense measures. The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement stipulates that an armed attack against any of the three countries will be treated as an attack against all, and it calls for expanded defense cooperation and enhanced collective deterrence.
This recent meeting signifies a concerted effort by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye to operationalize their defense agreement through practical military and security cooperation. By reinforcing their collaborative efforts, the countries aim to address the threats posed by Houthi aggression and ensure the stability and security of the region.
