Oman and Pakistan have taken significant steps to enhance their bilateral relations by signing a series of agreements aimed at fostering cooperation across various sectors. During an official visit to Islamabad by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, both nations finalized a visa exemption agreement alongside four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) that target collaboration in technology, telecommunications, broadcasting, information exchange, and archival services.
The signing ceremony took place at the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in attendance. Oman was represented by Foreign Minister Al Busaidi, while Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar signed on behalf of Pakistan. Furthermore, the officials documented the minutes of the eighth session of their Joint Ministerial Committee, reinforcing their shared intent to deepen bilateral ties.
One of the key outcomes of these discussions is the visa exemption agreement, which facilitates easier travel for holders of diplomatic, special, service, and official passports between the two countries. This agreement is expected to streamline official visits and foster closer governmental interactions.
The MoUs span a range of collaborative efforts, including advancements in telecommunications and information technology, joint ventures in radio and television broadcasting, and the exchange of news and information. Additionally, there is a focus on bolstering the partnership between Oman’s National Records and Archives Authority and Pakistan’s National Archives, which is anticipated to enhance the management and sharing of archival resources and expertise.
By establishing these agreements, Oman and Pakistan aim to strengthen institutional ties, improve coordination among government agencies, and facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and information. These efforts mark an important step towards expanding and deepening the bilateral relationship between the two nations, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.
